Although a young AKITA can be very rough and tumble (and exasper-ating) at times, please remember that it is really just a baby and needs to be treated as such. The puppy needs all the love and attention you can give it. This is important so it will properly bond with its new family and feel a part of it. The early weeks with you are most important to the puppy's development both physically and emotionally. During this time, any undue trauma can permanently damage the puppy emotionally. Although early training can (must) be done, be very careful with any chastisement - be gentle. It is certainly not too early for the puppy to learn "NO", but it must also learn what is wanted. Therefore, praise must also be used. Physically, the puppy is going through a very rapid growth phase and care must be taken in its skeletal development and protection of delicate joints. Rough horseplay with other dogs and children as well as jumping off heights MUST be avoided. The soft bones and joints cannot sustain the jolts. Proper footing is important to prevent wren-ching of the joints, so be wary when the puppy is on unsure footing, such as tile floors. | MORE -> | ||||||||||
